This is a turn-based RPG that takes place in a world where magic is a dominant force. Everyone can use magic from birth, though most can only use one or two types of magic. Since magic can be used as a terrible weapon, everyone is required from a young age to attend school and learn how to use their magic properly. However, one student has a problem. The hero of our story, Nero, is unable to use magic of any kind. He continues to train and study in school, telling himself that eventually, he will be able to use magic, just like all the rest.
One day, just before graduation, tragedy strikes. Nero is expelled from the school because he still can not use magic, and is attacked and chased from the school grounds. He decides that he will strike out on his own, to continue his training and learn magic on his own.
Thus begins our story. Guide nero through many towns and dungeons using a menu-based exploration system, solve puzzles and eventually, figure out how to use magic. Play as many different characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, and each tailored to a specific type of magic. The technique and magic systems are quite advanced. Techniques are not learned, but instead are gained by purchasing or obtaining weapons that have special skills attached to them. When not equipped, these weapons can be used from the techniques menu to perform powerful attacks and abilities. As you use each of the 4 different weapon categories, you rise in skill levels for that weapon, thus allowing that character to use stronger and stronger techniques.
The magic system is heavily interlinked with the storyline. Many new characters that join the party will bring a new spell or two with them, but the most powerful spells can only be unlocked through events in the main storyline, or sometimes through side quests. As you use spells, you rise in levels for that element, allowing for more powerful magic to be used by that character.
As for equipment and items, you have limited space in your inventory for up to 9 items of each type, and the rest must be stored in your bag. You have one weapon slot, and 4 equipment slots to work with, so you can load up your characters with plenty of gear for battling. You can also collect different colored seeds from around the world, that can be planted in magic pots. These will grow into items and equipment based on the type of seed you plant.
The game has many other features. Organize a party of characters, generally up to 4, or travel alone. Fight random battles on the world map, and control the encounter rate. The battles and events even change based on whether it is day or night in the game. Fight in the battle arena at various ranks, either as a team or with each character individually, to obtain powerful items and rewards. Play the various games at the casino to earn lots of money for purchasing powerful items. After clearing the game, select a new difficulty to play, retaining your statistics, items and money.
Travel through this unique world and enjoy the storyline. The dialogue even changes based on which characters you have in your party. With many hours of gameplay, tons of items to collect, side quests and bonus content, this is a must for any RPG fan.
