Azteca is a free interactive fiction game from Malinche Entertainment, possibly the only company now producing commercial quality text adventures full time. When some new Aztec ruins are discovered, the scientific world is taken by storm, ---- however soon after exploration of these ruins begins, several scientists go missing. it's up to you, the bold Indiana Jones type of Archaeologist that you are, armed only with a knife, a flashlight, and your whits to explore the pyramid, rescue the scientists, and grab as much aztec treasure as you can!
Despite their rather aggressive promotional style, the writing and atmosphere of this game is pretty good, ----- possibly owing to the fact that Malinche's chief writer was packed off to South America to studdy some real Aztec ruins before writing this game (let's hope they never want a game set inside a Volcano!).
When you sign up to the Malinche mailing list found here You'll recieve a link and password to the Malinche server where you may download Azteca, as well as demo versions of their other interactive fiction games.
You may download Azteca as a stand alone program, ---- with or without self-voicing text to speech capability. This will create a folder and program short cuts for directly running the game, as well as installing either Winfrotz, see game page or Winfrotz tts see index page depending whether or not you install the tts self-voicing version of the program or not. If you already have either of these interpreters, you can also download the story file separately as well, and open it in your chosen version of Winfrotz the way you'd open any Z code game
With your sign up E-mail you'll also get a copy of the pdf Malinche players guide, click here to read online Which is a great introduction to Interactive fiction in general, ---- and malinche's games in particular.
